Artist’s Studio

“Art should be something that liberates your soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further”

Keith Haring

I love art very much and therefore decided to dedicate the first post in my Notes specifically to it and more precisely to the German artist Susanne Pahlke and her cozy studio, which is located in the heart of the small medieval town of Bad Wimpfen. Bad Wimpfen is a little gem of Baden-Württemberg and one day I will write about it separately but today it's all about Susanne and her studio.

Walking around the town, I often passed by an old house with a history dating back to the deep Middle Ages. Its turquoise door and the sign on it, with the inscription "Home is where your art is”, always caught my attention. One day, I decided to knock on this door and behind it was a whole world filled with the most different heroes and moments. And so began our acquaintance with the wonderful artist Susanne Pahlke.

After a while I took photos of the studio and her paintings and today I would like to share with you those shots and some of Susannes’s phrases from our conversation, which speak about her love for life, art.

...a painting process is an act of love, communication with the canvas, the painting surface, excitement, dedication, trust, wonder...

I have been drawing since I was a child, as soon as I saw a pen... once I scribbled the whole wall next to my bed with a ring from a vending machine. That caused trouble... I was 4 or 5 years old.... I was fascinated by how this ring could draw lines and patterns on the wallpaper on the wall... today I draw on the side again and again without having anything specific in mind... drawing calms me down, my soul guides the pen, usually a fountain pen...

I think I tell stories without words or keep moments alive through my pictures...this is as diverse as life itself...

If I manage to make viewers of my works stop and marvel or even laugh for a moment, that is my greatest success...that is my story: I could only reach my mother a few times when I painted or wrote something...she was always working, always stressed, and only very rarely could I stop her for a moment with a picture...and today I know that this is my task...to consciously perceive people and, if appropriate, to stop them, to paint and draw awareness, joy and love...
