Antwerpen, part 2
The museum was opened in 2011 on the site of an abandoned port dock. After looking at the information about the museum on the website, I realized that we wouldn't have enough time to fully explore it. It is indeed very large and has such a variety of collections that, in my opinion, even for a first acquaintance a couple of visits are required. The museum combines several directions - art, ethnography, the history of the city's development, and a maritime museum. In general, it can be said that it represents the heritage of Antwerp's past and present, as well as the world as a whole.
So, I decided to leave the museum visit for another time, but I got immense visual pleasure from its architecture. The project was realized by the architectural bureau Neutelings Riedijk Architects and the rich terracotta colors were achieved thanks to the various shades of red sandstone brought from India.
On the top floor, there is the restaurant Zilte. The reviews about it are wonderful, which is not surprising, as the chef, Viki Geunes, is a three Michelin-star holder. If you want to go there in the evening, you should book a table well in advance and adhere to the 'casual chic' dress code.
And if you just want to have a meal, a coffee, a glass of wine, or beer, then there is an excellent café called Storm downstairs with a spacious terrace.
. Cogels-Osylei Street
Cogels-Osylei is located away from the city center, but if you find yourself in Antwerp, you won't regret the time and should definitely go there. You will be rewarded abundantly with the incredible beauty of the late 19th to early 20th-century architectural houses. It's not a touristy street (just the way I like it :)), people here live their ordinary Antwerp lives, but in what houses! Each house is unique, with its own name and a multitude of details. I couldn't take my eyes off them! My imagination painted stories of the construction of these houses and the people who lived there.
. People
People... I adore capturing them when they don't see me, only then are they genuine, and only then can one feel their mood and see sincere emotions in the moment.
Hopefully you enjoyed this small “photo journey” througout Antwerpen with me…
…and probably one day you will also go there and fall
in love with this city as i did :)
